Save Money This Weekend at Tech Bookstore

Back-to-school shoppers are reminded that the Arkansas Tech University Bookstore will be open this weekend to participate in the statewide sales tax holiday.

Arkansas Tech students preparing for the 2011-12 academic year can shop the Tech Bookstore on Saturday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 7, for textbooks, school supplies and clothing and avoid the usual 8.5 percent sales tax.

The Arkansas Tech Bookstore is offering an additional 8.5 percent discount during the Aug. 6-7 sales tax holiday. That means that students can acquire their back-to-school materials at a total savings of 17 percent.

Bookstore hours for the special event will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.

Students can also take advantage of the discounts by shopping online at www.atu.edu/bookstore between 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7.

As signed into law by Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe on March 29, all retailers in the State of Arkansas will be required to waive all state and local sales taxes on clothing items, school supplies and textbooks beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 7 at 11:59 p.m.

This year will mark the first time that the State of Arkansas has offered a sales tax holiday.
