Savage Storm Takes 2-of-3 From Tech

Southeastern Oklahoma State University used an extra-inning rally in the finale to earn a 2-of-3 games Great American Conference series victory over Arkansas Tech University at Durant, Okla., on Friday and Saturday.

The Savage Storm (16-17 overall, 11-7 GAC) won game one of the series 8-5 and the series finale 8-6. The Wonder Boys won the middle game 8-4.

Arkansas Tech (13-18, 7-11) will visit Lyon College for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader in Batesville on Tuesday, March 29.

Game One: SOSU 8, Tech 5

Dylan Helms, Kaleb Thomas and Bryson Allen notched two base hits apiece to lead Southeastern Oklahoma State to an 8-5 win over Arkansas Tech in the series opener on Friday.

Brandon Grimsley hit a first-inning three-run home run for the Savage Storm to give them an early 3-1 lead. Solo home runs by Arkansas Tech’s Josh Watkins in the second and fourth innings allowed the Wonder Boys to pull even at 3-3.

Tech briefly led 4-3 after Marcus Wilson notched an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. Southeastern Oklahoma State reclaimed the lead for good behind Thomas’ RBI double and Corban Taylor’s sacrifice fly in the last of the sixth.

Savage Storm starting pitcher Dylan Linke (4-2) scattered 11 hits over seven innings. He was charged with four runs, three of which were earned. Brady Colbert pitched the final two innings for Southeastern and earned his seventh save of the season.

Arkansas Tech starting pitcher Zach Skelton (2-4) allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings.

Game Two: Tech 8, SOSU 4

Arkansas Tech matched its season high with 17 base hits in an 8-4 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.

The Wonder Boys built a 7-0 lead after five innings and cruised to their second road win of 2016.

Tech’s Lonnie Hawkins led the barrage with four base hits. Kaleb Warden, Dylan McDearmon and Seth Wheeler had three hits apiece, while Watkins and Collin O’Neil both added two hits.

Trent Armstrong (3-4) earned the win on the mound. He limited the Savage Storm to three runs on five hits over five and one-third innings. Geoffrey Birkemeier, Ryan Vruggink, Brandon Bohuslav and Jesse Harbin combined to pitch the final three and two-thirds innings for the Wonder Boys.

Savage Storm starting pitcher Scott Richards (2-4) surrendered four runs on three hits in two innings.

Game Three: SOSU 8, Tech 6

Ty Hanson’s three-run home run gave Southeastern Oklahoma State University an 8-6 victory over Arkansas Tech on Saturday in the final game of the series.

The score was tied 5-5 after the seventh and final scheduled inning. Tech’s Watkins was hit by a pitch to force Connor Brady home with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, but Hanson’s blast to right-center field in the last of the eighth gave the Savage Storm a walk-off win.

Colbert (4-1) worked six and two-thirds innings. He allowed two runs on six hits while striking out six.

Bohuslav (1-3) was the losing pitcher. O’Neil had a game-high three hits for the Wonder Boys.
