Saturday Sweep: Golden Suns Finish 3-1 in KC

Arkansas Tech won twice on the final day of the Rockhurst Volleyball Classic in Kansas City, Mo., to complete the event and open the 2011 season with a 3-1 record.

The Golden Suns came from behind to defeat Rockhurst 21-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-20, 15-10 in their first match on Saturday.

Laura Farney notched 21 kills and 12 digs in the win. Farney made just one attack error in 45 attempts.

Sara Motsinger added 16 kills and Kelly O’Malley made 15 kills for Arkansas Tech. Amber Cerrillos recorded 59 assists and 14 digs, while Brennae Benda had 29 digs.

The Golden Suns had a much easier time later in the day with the University of Mary, sweeping that match by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-13.

Thabata Galvao led the way with 10 kills, six digs and three blocks.

Arkansas Tech will go back on the road on Friday, Sept. 9, and Saturday, Sept. 10, for the University of Alabama in Huntsville Invitational.
