The Arkansas Tech University College of Business invites faculty, staff, students and friends of Tech to the Spring 2012 Distinguished Lecture Series. Arkansas Tech alum Misty Sampley will speak on her success with Sally Hanson and Elizabeth Arden.

Sampley is scheduled to speak Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Tucker Coliseum. She will be discussing the impact a college degree can make, the advantages of hard work and dedication and the importance of networking.

After graduating from Arkansas Tech in 2003, Sampley learned of a job from a connection she made as a student at a SIFE career fair.  She began her business career working as an assistant marketing manager for a prestigious cosmetic and nail color company in New York.

Though she felt she had just entered a realm similar to “The Devil Wears Prada,” she found herself learning more than she imagined. Her love for the job launched her promotion to marketing manager, where she developed her first nail color line, “X-treme Wear by Sally Hanson.”

Sampley became determined to leave New York and move back to the Natural State. She was offered a position as category manager for Wal-Mart, which allowed her to combine her consumer and marketing knowledge to build merchandising patterns and layouts for the beauty department.

From there, she excelled in leading her team team as the senior category manager. In 2007, Sampley decided to accept an offer from the Elizabeth Arden Company as their Director of Category Management for Wal-Mart Global.  In 2010, she was promoted to Director of Shopper Insights for all North American accounts.

Having received numerous nominations for Who’s Who Among Business Women and Leaders during her nine year career, she recently joined the members of Northwest Arkansas’ Finest Young Professionals.

The Knoxville native currently resides in Yellville, working from home and traveling to New York and Florida as necessary. When not working, she loves to golf with her fiancé and future stepson, work on film projects, and travel for liesure.
