Rough Second Day Sinks Wonder Boys

Arkansas Tech posted a final-round team score of 316 on Tuesday to finish with a 36-hole score of 619 and a share of ninth place in the Indian Bayou Classic at Indian Bayou Golf Club in Destin, Fla.

The Wonder Boys were in fourth place among a 14-team field and just 10 strokes off the lead following an opening-round 303 on Monday. But only two Tech players broke 80 on Tuesday and the Wonder Boys fell back to the middle of the pack.

Jack Garrett had rounds of 77 and 75 for Tech. His 152 total was good for a share of 20th place.

Slade Hames (T-33rd, 73-83-156), Graham Rucker (T-36th, 76-81-157), Parker Hale (T-50th, 83-77-160) and Colton Dillard (T-64th, 77-88-165) also represented the Wonder Boys in the tournament, which was hosted by the University of North Alabama.

The UNA Lions (299-281-580) won the tournament by two strokes over Delta State (293-289-582).

Joey Bradley of Trevecca Nazarene defeated Grant Goforth of Delta State in a sudden death playoff for the individual title. Bradley and Goforth completed 36 holes with matching totals of 2-under 142.

The Indian Bayou Classic marked the end of the fall season for the Wonder Boys. Arkansas Tech’s men’s golf team will return to action Feb. 21-22, 2011, at the Doyle Wallace Classic in Hot Springs.
