Layton Robinson’s five-hit shutout in the rubber match on Saturday allowed Arkansas Tech University to earn a 2-of-3 games series victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State University at Carl Baswell Field in Russellville.
Robinson (2-1) struck out six Savage Storm hitters over nine innings in the Wonder Boys’ 6-0 win in the series finale.
Arkansas Tech won the series opener 11-1 on Friday on the strength of Britt Stroth’s performance from the top of the order. He went 5-for-5 with three runs scored.
Isaac Hale (4-0) pitched a complete game on Friday afternoon, limiting Southeastern Oklahoma State to one run on five hits over seven innings. He notched five strikeouts.
Austin Fergu’s run-scoring single in the fifth inning was the difference in a 2-1 Savage Storm victory in the second half of Friday’s doubleheader.
Robinson was named GAC co-pitcher of the week and Stroth was named GAC player of the week in recognition of their performances against Southeastern (8-9, 5-4).
Stroth finished the series 8-for-11 with five runs scored.
Arkansas Tech (12-8 overall, 7-2 GAC) is in sole possession of second place in the GAC standings, one game behind first-place Southern Arkansas University (13-4, 8-1).
The Wonder Boys will host Ouachita Baptist University for a 3 p.m. non-conference game at Carl Baswell Field on Tuesday, March 5. No admission will be charged.
