Resident Assistant Training Begins Sunday

The 2010-11 resident assistants will return to campus this weekend to begin training for the upcoming academic year.

More than 60 resident assistants will begin moving into the various Arkansas Tech residence halls this weekend to begin training with staff members from the Arkansas Tech Office of Residential Life.

Officials say the intensive training period helps the student leaders understand the tasks involved in working for the Office of Residential Life.

During the training, the resident assistants hear from various Arkansas Tech personnel on topics such as advising, emergency response and residence hall policies.

Kevin Solomon, assistant director of housing, says the students also spend time enhancing their leadership skills by researching student development theories and ways to help new students make the transition to college.

As part of the training, the resident assistants are expected to work to on programming in their hall.  Solomon says each hall has several resident assistants, and they work together to create a programming schedule for that hall.
