Residence Life Collecting Food

The Arkansas Tech residence halls are collecting food sets Wednesday to help feed others this holiday season.

The Office of Residential Life is collecting the sets Wednesday in Room 104, which will be donated to the Salvation Army’s annual food drive.  The food drive provides a Thanksgiving meal to those in need.

Those donating complete food sets are asked to compile the sets in plastic bags to help with sorting.

Each food sets consists of several items needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and organizers say it costs approximately $11 to make a complete meal set.

A complete set of food includes the following items:

  • Can of turkey gravy
  • Can of sweet potatoes
  • Can of green beans or peas
  • Box of stuffing
  • Box of mashed potatoes
  • Can of cranberries
  • Can of pie filling
  • Pie crust (not frozen)
  • Bag of marshmallows

All Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the drive, and the residence hall that collects the most sets of food will win a prize for their residence hall.

Last year, Arkansas Tech faculty, staff and students collected about 150 sets of food, which helped provide meals for nearly two-thirds of the families the Salvation Army helped feed.  Organizers say they hope to collect 200 sets of food this year.
