Registration Open for Intramural Sports

Students wishing to participate in intramural sports this fall are able to begin registering and start making memories.

Currently, students wishing to participate in intramural activities may sign up for the kickball tournament, women’s and men’s singles tennis tournament, co-recreational, women’s and men’s sand volleyball, women’s and men’s singles table tennis, women’s and men’s flag football, and Zumba.

Grant Watts, coordinator of intramural/recreational sports, says students are able to register online through the intramurals website.

Students have until Thursday, Aug. 25, at 11:55 p.m. to register for tennis or kickball, Tuesday, Aug. 30, to determine sand volleyball teams, Wednesday, Aug. 31 to sign up for table tennis, and Thursday, Sept. 15 to join a flag football team.

Intramurals have adopted a new classification system for teams. “Green” is competitive, and is designed for teams or individuals with a high skill level and seek intensive competition.

Green teams compete Sunday through Thursday and are eligible to play in the All-University Tournament if they meet other requirements.

“Gold” is recreational. This division is for teams or individuals who just want to have fun. Like the green division, these teams play Sunday through Thursday. They are not eligible for the all-university tournament.

The sports are just some of the sporting opportunities offered through intramural/recreational sports each fall and spring.

Watts says intramurals play an important role in helping students succeed and stay connected to campus.  He added, “You might be on a team with somebody from class, a suitemate or someone from your hall. Playing intramurals gives students another outlet to get out of the library and residence halls to make friends, take a break and relieve stress, and improve their overall social well-being.”
