Rattlers Take Series Finale Over Tech

St. Mary’s University struck for three late runs to earn a 5-2 non-conference baseball win over Arkansas Tech University at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday afternoon.

The Rattlers (2-1) took 2-of-3 games from the Wonder Boys (1-2) in the season-opening series.

Sunday’s rubber game turned in the last of the eighth inning. St. Mary’s broke a 2-2 tie on Donnie Perez’s RBI single and then added insurance runs on RBI singles by Bryce Brandi and Scott Short.

Trent Rousseau (1-0) capped two and two-thirds innings of spotless relief for the Rattlers by retiring Arkansas Tech in order in the top of the ninth.

ATU reliever Branden Bohuslav (0-1) took the loss. He was charged with three runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings.

The Wonder Boys scored both of their runs in the top of the third inning. Dylan McDearmon came home as result of a St. Mary’s error. Zach Klockowski followed with an RBI double that drove in Mark Vaughn and tied the score at 2-2.

Arkansas Tech will travel to Batesville to face Lyon College for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
