Rattlers Even Series With Wonder Boys

St. Mary’s University rapped out 15 base hits in a 17-7 non-conference baseball win over Arkansas Tech University at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday.

The Rattlers jumped out to an 8-2 lead after two innings after they plated seven runs in the bottom of the second.

The game was stopped early due to the mercy rule when St. Mary’s Jacob Aguilar notched an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to set the final score.

Reliever Nick Garcia (1-0) was credited with the win after he limited the Wonder Boys to three runs, none of which were earned, in three and one-third innings.

ATU starter Isaac Hale (0-1) was charged with six runs on three hits in one-plus inning. Kyle Wilson, Lane Norwood and Jason Hastings pitched in relief for the Wonder Boys, who issued 10 walks to St. Mary’s batters.

The Rattlers (1-1) and the Wonder Boys (1-1) will play the rubber match of their season-opening, three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 5. First pitch is scheduled for noon. Live coverage will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
