Quidditch Team Seeks Tournament Win

The Arkansas Tech Quidditch Team will travel to Oklahoma State University to play in a tournament with teams from across the United States.

The tournament will be pool play first, followed by a single elimination round. Arkansas Tech will start by playing Kansas University and Oklahoma Baptist University.

Team Captain Steven Sola said the first game will be a great test. “KU made it to the “Sweet 16” in last year’s World Cup tournament in New York. They are ranked 12th in the nation,” he said.

“Our team is young, but full of promising talent. We are all looking to have fun,” Sola said. The team will play in another tournament in April at the University of Arkansas.

Members of the team include Charla New, Jackie Manus, Denise Head, Raechel Hollander, Brian Shipman, Austin Gray, Tyler Goldsborough, Mike Quain, Ian Lehman, Eric Krigbaum, Kirk Perrault and Roman LeBahn.

The first Quidditch game at Arkansas Tech was held in November of 2010. The team became a recognized student organization last spring.

Sola invites anyone interested in playing or learning more about the game, which derives from the Harry Potter series, to attend a practice. Practices are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. on the south side of Witherspoon.
