"The Realm" Opens Tonight

Arkansas Tech Theatre has announced the student-directed production of “The Realm” will open tonight.

The opening production will be tonight at 8 p.m., followed by Friday, April 8 at 8 p.m. in the Techionary.

Additional performances will be held Thursday, April 14, Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16, all at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m. in the Techionary.

The cast  of “The Realm,” written by Sarah Myers, features Arkansas Tech students including Cora Sanders, Harrison Dean, Taran Gaston, Desha Rankin, Grace Quay, John Middleton, Tim Jarmon, Nathan Freeman, Ben Munise, Dallas Gossett, and Gina Lucas.

Due to the adaptability of the theatre program’s facility, each play receives its own stage. The set of “The Realm” stands two stories tall and allows characters to weave in and out of hidden areas.

Keshia Lovewell is the student director of the play. “I want to make people think about the small things we take for granted, like the ability to express yourself through language.” Lovewell will be the first student at Arkansas Tech to direct a surrealist production.

“The Realm” is a retro-futuristic story about a young girl and her friend trying to escape a place where people are devoid of individuality and personal thought. They must overcome the Realm to be themselves.

Tickets for “The Realm” are available at the door and are $5 for children and Tech ID holders and $8 for general admission.
