"Battle of the Bands" with UAM Jazz Ensemble

Arkansas Tech’s 2011 Jazz Fest will present a joint concert with the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensemble I and the University of Arkansas Monticello Jazz Ensemble I on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium at Arkansas Tech.

The University of Arkansas Monticello Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Gary Meggs, has been invited to perform at top jazz festivals all over the south and midwest.

“University of Arkansas Monticello has one of the most vibrant college jazz programs in Arkansas,” said Arkansas Tech Jazz Director Dr. Tim Howe, “Gary and I have been trying to do this for several years and I am glad they could finally get time from their busy performing schedule to play at Tech.”

Dr. Howe will be joining the University of Arkansas Monticello Jazz Ensemble as guest soloist on “Blue Cellophane,” a trombone solo written for Lawrence Brown and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

The second half of the program will feature the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensemble with Gary Meggs as guest sax soloist on the jazz ballad “Body and Soul.”

“Professor Meggs recently returned from a year on the road with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, so I am looking forward to hearing his solo, I am sure it will be great!” said Dr. Howe.

Admission is free. For more information contact Dr. Tim Howe at thowe@atu.edu.
