Arkansas Tech University President Dr. Robin E. Bowen joined members of registered student organization Because We Can in their food recovery effort at Chambers Cafeteria on Wednesday night.
Together, the group recovered 56.25 pounds of food. It was delivered to local service organizations on Thursday morning. In less than five weeks of food recovery, Because We Can has provided more than 2,000 pounds of food to those in need in the Arkansas River Valley.
Also in attendance at Wednesday night’s food recovery was Olivia Rogine, community development coordinator and program manager for The Campus Kitchens Project. Rogine is in Russellville this week to help Arkansas Tech celebrate the $5,000 grant that it won in November 2015.
By winning the grant, Arkansas Tech becomes the 50th institution of higher learning in the United States and the first in Arkansas to become an affiliate of The Campus Kitchens Project.
Because We Can members and their advisors, Department of Behavioral Sciences faculty members Dr. Sean Huss and Dr. James Stobaugh, will be recognized for the achievement during halftime of the women’s basketball game between Arkansas Tech University and Henderson State University at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Thursday, Feb. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
