Preseason Pep Rally A Big Hit

More than 500 Arkansas Tech University students turned out at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field on Wednesday night to get ready for the 2010 football season with a pep rally.

Tech students Chris Terrell and Nathan Nwachuku served as the masters of ceremonies for the pep rally.

The event was intended to introduce freshmen to many of Arkansas Tech’s game day traditions and cheers so that the newcomers to the student section would be prepared for the Wonder Boys’ season opener on Sept. 2.

The Arkansas Tech Cheerleaders, the Arkansas Tech Golden Girls dance team and the Arkansas Tech Band of Distinction were all represented during the pep rally.

Kera Dukic, a senior on the Tech volleyball team, spoke to the crowd about the Golden Suns’ 2010 season.

Steve Mullins, director of athletics and head football coach at Arkansas Tech, was quick to praise pep rally organizers after Tech’s scrimmage on Wednesday night.

“The amount of people in the stands tonight was just incredible,” said Mullins. “I appreciate Jaime Martin and all the other people in student services for creating this atmosphere. Don’t think our guys didn’t notice it.”

Tech students will have an opportunity to employ the cheering skills they learned at the pep rally on Thursday, Sept. 2, when the Wonder Boys host the Lambuth Eagles at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Those with a valid Tech identification card will be admitted free.
