Pederson Earns ArkAHPERD Higher Ed Award

Dr. Rockie Pederson, associate professor of health and physical education and interim head of the Department of Health and Physical Education at Arkansas Tech University, is the 2016 Arkansas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (ArkAHPERD) higher educator of the year.

Pederson received the award at the 2016 ArkAHPERD Conference, which was held Nov. 3-4 in Little Rock.

“When they started saying a few words, I realized they were talking about me,” said Pederson. “I was honored, blown away and totally surprised. It makes me want to work harder. It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers, especially at a statewide level by the caliber of higher education professionals we have in physical education and kinesiology in Arkansas.”

A member of the Arkansas Tech faculty since 2011, Pederson holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Henderson State University. She earned her Ph.D. at Texas Woman’s University.
