Eight students at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus have been awarded the Franklin County Single Parent Scholarship for the fall 2012 semester.

Linda Kaufenberg of Fort Smith, executive director of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Crawford, Franklin and Sebastian counties, said her chapter awarded 57 scholarships this semester – its most ever.

She said 18 Arkansas Tech University students are being given the scholarship, which can be used “for anything, as long as it keeps them in school.”

Franklin County recipients include: Amanda McCartney, Gayla Williams, Sandy Pippin, Ashley Bland and Miranda Williamson, all of Ozark; Patricia Ihle of Ratcliff; Courtney Cole of Charleston; and Brittani Riley of Alix.

Eligibility requirements include having a 2.0 grade-point average and sole custody of a child 17 years old or younger. The scholarship is renewable, so if the GPA average is kept, recipients continue receiving the funds until graduation.

Those taking 12 or more credit hours receive $750. Students with 9-11 hours receive $625, and ones with 6-8 hours receive $437.50. Scholarship recipients are awarded half of the funding at the beginning of the semester and the rest at midterm.

The application deadline for spring 2013 Single Parent Scholarships is Monday, Dec. 3. More information is available at www.aspsf.org, or by contacting Kaufenberg at (479) 434-6171.
