Onodera to Lead IMSSO on Interim Basis

The Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees has appointed Yasushi Onodera as interim director of the Arkansas Tech University International and Multicultural Student Services Office (IMSSO) effective July 1.

It was announced earlier this month that Amy Pennington, who has served as IMSSO director since 2003, will become dean of students at Arkansas Tech on July 1.

Onodera has served as IMSSO assistant director since 2008.

His association with Arkansas Tech dates back to his days as a foreign student advsior from 2004-08 for NCN Institute, an agency that provides Japanese students with educational opportunities in the United States. Onodera was born in Kanagawa, Japan.

A 1995 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, Onodera holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He added a Master of Arts degree in education and human development from George Washington University in 2009.

A memo presented to Board of Trustees members from Dr. John W. Watson, Arkansas Tech vice president for academic affairs, indicated that a national search for the position of director of the International and Multicultural Student Services Office will be conducted. The anticipated hire date for the position is Aug. 1, 2011.
