Arkansas Tech University students will be able to take part in several activities throughout the week as part of alcohol awareness week at Arkansas Tech.

OkSOBERfest will run through Thursday and is sponsored by Student Services and the Student Activities Board.

Graduate Assistant, Justine Tozer said the activities for OkSOBERfest were designed to offer a fun, educational and informative way to help students understand the effects of alcohol.

“These events were chosen to entertain students while also educating them about the issues college students face in regards to alcohol,” said Tozer. “Nationally, 42% of full-time college students report binge drinking. In Arkansas alone in 2010, over 8600 people were arrested for driving under the influence, and 173 people died in accidents due to an alcohol impaired driver. This just briefly touches on the severity of problems related to alcohol on college campuses.”
