New Year, Familiar Opponents for Tech Teams

Junior forward Fatima Adams ranks No. 2 in the GAC in scoring at 21.1 points per game. Only four Golden Suns — Donna Brunson, Lanell Dawson, Sherry Raney and Jennifer Richardson — have ever averaged more than 20 points per game for an entire season. Richardson was the most recent to accomplish that feat. She averaged 20.4 points per game while helping Arkansas Tech reach the NCAA Division II Tournament national quarterfinals during the 1997-98 season. The Suns have won 12 consecutive meetings with UAM. About the Cotton Blossoms: By winning three of its first five GAC games this season, Arkansas-Monticello is off to its best start in league play since the 2008-09 season. Junior forward Jordan Goforth averages 19.9 points per game, third-best in the GAC. Goforth has averaged 17.4 points per game in five career contests against Arkansas Tech. The Cotton Blossoms’ last win over the Golden Suns was an 81-64 triumph on Jan. 29, 2009, in Monticello. UAM has not defeated Arkansas Tech in Russellville since Feb. 3, 2006. The Wonder Boys are 4-0 in 2014-15 when they hold their opponent below 40 percent shooting from the field. Senior forward Darrick Little scored a season-high 16 points in a 73-68 loss at Pittsburg State on Wednesday. Senior guard Mike Balogun is shooting 42 percent from 3-point range and leads Arkansas Tech in scoring (14.0 points per game). About the Boll Weevils: Arkansas-Monticello is under the direction of first-year head coach Kyle Tolin, who served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma Baptist University for the last 10 seasons. The Boll Weevils have been idle since Dec. 20. UAM, which lost three of its last four games before the holiday break, ranks next-to-last in the GAC in both scoring defense (75.2 points allowed per game) and field goal percentage defense (.484).
