Nelson to Chair Logistics Management Program

Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus is proud to announce Heather Nelson as program chair of logistics management, the newest degree option at Arkansas Tech-Ozark.

Nelson, who most recently served as a local sales support analyst for ArcBest ABF Freight and previously served the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith as project manager in plant operations, said she is honored to lead the program.

“Logistics is an exciting, versatile career field and used by every business. We are very excited to be able to offer our students and our industry partners a solution to the growing need for proficient logistics employees,” Nelson said.

“As major transportation companies expand their services regionally and globally, they continue to use ‘just-in-time’ manufacturing techniques. These companies are seeking people with the working knowledge to handle transportation needs by managing the entire process for their customers.”

The Associate of Applied Science in Logistics Management introduces students to the basic fundamentals of supply chain management including procurement, issues in executing global supply chains, logistics, warehousing, transportation, and technology instruments in logistics.

Additionally, the program exposes students to business management, business communications, economics of supply and demand, computer fundamentals and database management skills.

“Our goal is to continue building industry partnerships to ensure our courses maintain existing quality, relevance and industry standards,” Nelson said. “Graduates of the program will be prepared to enter the workforce directly or continue their education.”
