Moon, Doyle Lead Suns to 4-1 Win

Seniors Tiphani Moon and Alex Doyle helped Arkansas Tech snap out of a mild late-season swoon by leading the Golden Suns to a 4-1 victory over the Delta State Lady Statesmen in game two of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader at University Field in Cleveland, Miss., on Friday.

Moon (photographed) went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in during the victory, while Doyle (10-9) pitched a complete game. She held DSU to one run on four hits while striking out seven batters in seven innings.

Delta State led 1-0 after three innings, but an RBI single by Hayley Hudson and an RBI double by Natalie Magie in the top of the fourth put the Suns in front 2-1.

Moon hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to set the final score.

With the win, Arkansas Tech (27-17 overall, 17-7 GSC) stopped a string of five losses in its last six games. The Golden Suns maintained sole possession of first place in the GSC West with six regular season league games remaining.

Delta State (20-26, 11-13) defeated the Golden Suns 3-2 in nine innings earlier on Friday.

The two sides will play another doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
