NCAA Basketball Regionals Awarded to Tech

Get ready basketball fans — the NCAA Tournament is coming to Russellville in a very, very big way.

Arkansas Tech will host the NCAA Division II Tournament South Regionals for both men’s and women’s basketball beginning on Friday, March 12, and continuing through Tuesday, March 16, at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.

The two regionals will bring a combined 14 NCAA Tournament games to Russellville and thousands of dollars to the local economy.

The Wonder Boys (29-1) are the No. 1 seed in the men’s regional, while the Golden Suns (28-2) are the No. 1 seed in the women’s regional.

More information, including game times and ticket prices, will be announced by the Arkansas Tech Athletics Department early this week.

First-round action will begin on Friday, March 12, with four women’s games (regional seeds in parentheses):

(1) Arkansas Tech vs. (8) Benedict College
(2) Delta State vs. (7) Lynn University
(3) Fort Valley State vs. (6) Valdosta State
(4) Tampa University vs. (5) Barry University

The men’s NCAA Division II South Regional begins on Saturday, March 13, with the following first-round contests (regional seeds in parentheses):

(1) Arkansas Tech vs. (8) Tuskegee
(2) Rollins College vs. (7) Alabama-Huntsville
(3) Florida Southern vs. (6) Barry University
(4) Valdosta State vs. (5) Clark Atlanta

Both women’s semifinals and both men’s semifinals are scheduled for Sunday, March 14. The regional championship games will be played on Tuesday, March 16.

This marks the third time that Arkansas Tech has hosted a women’s regional. The Golden Suns won the 1998 NCAA South Regional at Tucker Coliseum, and they finished as region runners-up when they hosted the event in 2003.

This is the first time that Arkansas Tech has ever hosted a men’s NCAA Division II Tournament regional.
