McKenzie, Stringer Collect League Accolades

Arkansas Tech University’s Tevin McKenzie and Braden Stringer were recognized by the Great American Conference on Monday, Oct. 23, for their performance in the Wonder Boys’ 66-10 football win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University two days earlier.

McKenzie (photographed, left) was selected as GAC offensive player of the week, while Stringer (photographed, right) was named GAC special teams player of the week.

Their performance helped the Wonder Boys (6-2 overall, 6-2 GAC) record their highest scoring output since 1961 and earn a share of first place in the conference standings with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

A senior from Mobile, Ala., McKenzie caught five passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown.

McKenzie leads the Wonder Boys and ranks third in the GAC in touchdown receptions (6) this season.

Stringer returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown during the Wonder Boys’ win over Northwestern Oklahoma State. It was his second punt return touchdown this season.

A senior from Blanchard, Okla., Stringer has 3,346 career all-purpose yards, fourth-most in ATU football history.

The Wonder Boys will visit East Central University for a 4 p.m. GAC contest at Norris Field in Ada, Okla., on Saturday, Oct. 28. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live play-by-play coverage.
