Dr. Merlin Mann, who retired in May after serving on the Arkansas Tech University faculty from 2012-18, was named 2018 Arkansas Press Association Journalism Educator of the Year during the group’s annual awards banquet in Eureka Springs.
Amber Quaid, former editor-in-chief of the Arka Tech student newspaper and a 2018 ATU graduate with a Master of Arts degree in multi-media journalism, presented Mann with his award.
Mann taught journalism at the collegiate level for 32 years. Before joining the ATU faculty, he was a professor at Abilene Christian University (Texas) for 26 years.
He also has more than 10 years of professional experience in the field, having served as a reporter at such newspapers as the Idaho Statesman in Boise, Idaho, and the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y.
