The Arkansas Tech University Department of Campus Life will host representatives and collegians from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. for an informational social and session at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Doc Bryan Student Services Center room 242.
The event is open to the campus community and the general public.
Kevin Solomon, associate dean for campus life, said that attendees will learn about the history, mission and values of Zeta Phi Beta while having the opportunity to visit with national and state representatives.
“Over the past four years, myself and staff within the Office of Greek Life have been actively recruiting National Pan-Hellenic Chapters in hopes that they would consider charting on our campus,” said Solomon. “We need traditionally African-American sororities on our campus…not only for the positive impact that this provides to our social Greek community, but for the opportunity it provides for many of our students desiring affiliation
“Greek Life on our campus, like many others, has shown to have a positive impact on academic performance,” continued Solomon. “Along with that, we also see personal growth and development, increased leadership skills, emphasis on service to the community and a strong bonds between students. Adding Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. as an option for our students would only increase the Greek Life impact.”
There are currently chapters of Zeta Phi Beta on 10 university campuses in Arkansas.
“Zeta Phi Beta representatives are excited about the possibilities our campus presents,” said Solomon. “They have reviewed our minority female student profile and they feel they have a lot to offer our students and in turn our students have immense value to them. We are hopeful that in the near future we will have a chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. on our campus.”
