Arkansas Tech University student Megan Lane is learning more about her chosen career by interning this semester at Arkansas Sports Performance Center.

During her internship, she is working with athletes on strength and conditioning programs.

“Most of the time I have a pre-written program to use, but there are times when I come up with a program on my own,” said Lane.  “We take athletes that want to get stronger or faster and put together a specialized program to help them reach their personal goals.”

Lane says one of her favorite parts has been working with a variety of athletes.

“We have athletes of all ages that play all sorts of sports,” said Lane.  “I’m enjoying getting to know the athletes that I work with.  It really makes my days interesting and fun.”

The biggest challenge for Lane has been working with clients who are older than she is and getting them to buy into the program she’s helped to prepare for them.

As a student at Arkansas Tech, Lane says her experiences have helped her prepare for a career in this field.

“I feel that all the professors in my department gave me knowledge that I needed in order to succeed in the health and fitness field,” said Lane.  “The opportunities I had to work at TechFit and as a student athletic trainer have also prepared me.”

After graduating in December, Lane says she hopes to find a job in the strength and conditioning field, clarity she now has thanks to her internship.

“From the research I did in my senior year, this place was the best to intern if I wanted to get a good idea if this is what I wanted to do with my life,” said Lane.  “This has been a great internship experience, and I now know that this is what I want to do with my life.”
