Arka Tech student newspaper at Arkansas Tech, won first place in editorial writing. Senior Shane Crabtree of Clinton, Arka Tech webmaster, won second place in feature writing, while senior Laura Bean of Yellville, co-editor-in-chief of the Arka Tech, won third place in sports writing. As a result, Tech tied Nicholls State for third place in overall points for the on-site competition. The University of Mississippi was the overall winner. Reeves previously had been recognized for a 10th place finish in editorial writing in the SEJC’s Best of the South competition. In addition to the on-site competitions, the Arkansas Tech delegation also attended professional development sessions and heard a keynote address by Debbie Elliott, national correspondent for National Public Radio.
