Jazz Ensembles Present Concert Thursday

The Arkansas Tech University Department of Music will present a spring concert by the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensembles on Thursday, April 29.

The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Witherspoon Building Auditorium.  Both ensembles will be under the direction of Dr. Tim Howe.

The Arkansas Tech Jazz II will open the program with standards by jazz legends Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Wayne Shorter in a large jazz combo format.

“Many of the performers in Tech Jazz II play multiple instruments, so even though it is a jazz combo, we are constantly coming up with new color combinations to keep things interesting and fresh,” added  Howe.

The Tech Jazz I will take the stage to begin the second half of the program.  This group is a jazz big bad and will offer arrangements from Stan Kenton, Thelonious Monk, Maynard Ferguson and the Yellow Jackets.

The trombone section will be highlighted during a rendition of “Bone Talk” by Mark Taylor.

Saxophonist Clay Cooper will be featured on the ballad “Yesterdays,” arranged by Bill Holman.
