The Arkansas Tech University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert entitled “A Time for Jazz” on Thursday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Witherspoon Building Auditorium.
The jazz ensemble will be under the direction of Dr. Tim Howe, assistant professor of music, and will feature several jazz band arrangements by Hank Levy including “A Time for Love” and “Time for a Change.”
Hank Levy really changed jazz band writing in the 1960’s and 1970’s by incorporating odd meters and creating a rich palate of instrument colors in his writing,” explained Howe.
The concert will also feature arrangements of “Oleo” and “Red Clay” by bebop legends Sonny Rollins and Freddie Hubbard. The ensemble will also present an arrangement of Charlie Barnett’s “Cherokee” and the mambo “Ran Kan Kan” by Tito Puente.
There is no charge to attend the concert, and the public is invited to attend.
