Arkansas Tech University student Mackenzie Louise Arthur of Scranton died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, May 30, 2025. She was 20.
Mackenzie’s sister, rising Scranton High School senior Maddie Arthur, also died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
A memorial service for the Arthur sisters is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Scranton High School Gymnasium.
Mackenzie, a 2023 graduate of Scranton High School, was an agricultural education major at ATU and would have been a senior during the 2025-26 academic year. She earned a place on the Dean’s List and/or the President’s List at Arkansas Tech in multiple semesters.
“Mackenzie was a sweet soul,” said Dr. Justin Killingsworth, interim head of the ATU Department of Agriculture and Tourism and associate professor of agricultural education. “She was quiet in class, but she did great work. Mackenzie would have been an amazing teacher. She was a great person, and our hearts go out to the Arthur family.”
