The Arkansas Tech University International and Multicultural Student Services Office (IMSSO) will once again offer the Global Connect program during the 2012-13 academic year as a means of acclimating international students to life in the United States.
According to the IMSSO Web page, Global Connect “assists international students with academic, social and cultural adjustments through friendship and support.”
New and returning American students at Arkansas Tech are eligible to serve as Global Connect mentors for international students on campus.
Program goals include welcoming international students to Arkansas Tech, providing support and encouragement, assisting students with making new friends and campus connections and helping international students improve their English listening and speaking skills.
Global Connect participants meet for one hour per week to practice English language skills. Other suggested activities include attending campus events together.
