Arkansas Tech University has partnered with Southeast Arkansas College to provide enhanced access to bachelor’s degrees and careers in elementary education.

The new 2+2 plan will create a seamless pathway for graduates from Southeast Arkansas’ Associate of Arts in teaching degree to pursue the ATU Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

Dr. Tim Carter, dean of the ATU College of Education and Health, signed the articulation agreement on behalf of ATU.

“I am excited about this partnership,” said Carter. “Enhancing student access is a core aspect of the Arkansas Tech University mission. Connecting graduates from Southeast Arkansas College with the benefits of ATU’s elementary education program, including the option for students to work while finishing their bachelor’s degree and the possibility of paid internships for students working within local school districts, is aligned with our commitment to access. This collaboration reinforces the institutions’ shared mission to serve our communities and advance the field of education.”

Stacy Pfluger, interim president of Southeast Arkansas College, signed the articulation agreement on behalf of her institution.

“SEARK College recognizes the high demand for quality educators in the Delta region,” said Pfluger. “By offering students a clear route to transition from SEARK College to Arkansas Tech University, we empower our students to become the next generation of effective educators while remaining in the region.”

Students engaged in the 2+2 agreement between ATU and SEARK will have the option to complete their bachelor’s degree in person on the ATU campus in Russellville or online.
