Homecoming Parade Set for Saturday

Tech spirit will be on display Saturday throughout campus for the annual 2012 Homecoming parade

Tech spirit will be on display Saturday throughout campus for the annual 2012 Homecoming parade.  The parade is set to begin at 2 p.m. on the Tech campus.

Multiple student groups will take part in the parade and are competing to win monetary prizes from the Student Government Association.

The Homecoming theme is “Beat the Savage Storm” and floats will be evaluated on how well they portray the theme.

The parade route will begin at the Witherspoon Building, will turn onto West Q Street, then turn right onto N. Boulder Ave.  The parade will then turn right on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and turn in front of Nutt Hall.  The parade will continue on N. El Paso Ave. and turn right onto West M. Street.  The parade will then turn right onto N. Glenwood and then another right on West Q Street to finish the parade.

Parade participants are asked to not throw candy from vehicles, but those walking in the parade may distribute the candy.

In preparation for the parade, several campus streets will be closed Saturday from 1:40 p.m. until 2:40 p.m.

The streets that will be closed include:

  • West Q Street
  • North Boulder Avenue
  • Martin Luther King Drive
  • North El Paso Ave
  • West M Street
  • North Glenwood
