Homecoming Golf Classic Set for Oct. 21

Arkansas Tech University alumni and friends will tee it up at Russellville Country Club on Friday, Oct. 21, for the 2011 Arkansas Tech Homecoming Golf Classic.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Arkansas Tech Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, which awarded a total of $19,050 in scholarships to 11 Tech freshmen this fall.

“The Homecoming Golf Classic is a great event because it brings alumni and friends together for an enjoyable day that creates opportunities for the next generation of the Tech family,” said Kelly Davis, director of alumni relations. “So many of us benefited from scholarships during our time as students at Tech, and it is wonderful to see the way that our alumni and friends have supported this event and this cause over the years.”

The day will begin with registration at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. There will be an official welcome at 11:45 a.m., and golfers will be sent out for a noon shotgun start on the par-71 layout at Russellville Country Club.

The three-person scramble tournament is open to any Tech alumnus or Tech supporter. Cost is $75 per person, and hole sponsorship opportunities are available. Registration deadline is Oct. 14.

Todd Phillips, Jack Shaffer and Jake Shaffer fired a 17-under par score of 54 to win the 2010 Arkansas Tech Homecoming Golf Classic by two shots over the runner-up team of Randy Adkins, Beau Dollar and Neal Westbrook. A full field of 36 teams competed in last year’s event.
