A native of Spain, Alvarez is president and co-founder of Mamas Unidas LR (United Moms of Little Rock). The non-profit organization provides college readiness information to the Hispanic community.

“There was a moment in my life when I dreamed of going to college," wrote Alvarez in a statement on the organization's website. "I was 17 years old, but my family’s social economic condition was a barrier to pursuing my dream. This is the reason why I am part of Mamas Unidas. I want to support students who have the same dream. This is the sole purpose of Mamas Unidas and our motivation to continue to grow as an organization.”
