HIM Caps Big Week With Open House

It has been a busy week for the faculty, staff and students in the Arkansas Tech University Health Information Management program.

On Thursday, Oct. 11, they took a couple of hours to catch their breath and welcome the campus community to their new offices.

The renovated southwest wing of Dean Hall is the new home for the program, which was previously housed in the T5 building outside Wilson Hall.

The program’s open house at Dean Hall Suite 201 coincided with American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Health Information and Technology Week, which is being celebrated nationwide from Nov. 7-13.

According to the AHIMA Web site, the annual event is a “showcase for the thousands of health information management (HIM) professionals who perform their duties masterfully throughout the year.”

Dr. Melinda Wilkins, professor and director of health informatics and health information management at Arkansas Tech, said that students and faculty in the program have participated in exercises and organized informational sessions throughout the week as part of AHIMA Health Information and Technology Week.
