Helping Halls, a program that has led Arkansas Tech University students to donate 1,380 holiday meals for those in need over the past five years, is back for 2012.

Between now and Nov. 14, Arkansas Tech students living in university housing will collect food kits consisting of the following items and prepare the kits for donation to the Salvation Army:

  • Turkey gravy (canned or mix)
  • Canned sweet potatoes
  • Green beans
  • Corn
  • Cranberries
  • Pie filling
  • Stuffing mix
  • Boxed mashed potatoes mix
  • Marshmallows
  • Pie crust

The food kits must be returned to the Wilson Hall lobby between 8:30-10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The donated food will be delivered to the Salvation Army office on Weir Road in Russellville that morning and distributed to those in need on Nov. 19 in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Each residence hall at Arkansas Tech has been assigned a population-based goal for the program. The residence hall that collects the highest percentage of its goal will receive a $100 prize to be awarded to its agency account.
