Arkansas Tech University freshman Cami Hedstrom ran the fastest 4-kilometer time in Golden Suns’ history during the University of Central Arkansas Cross Country Challenge in Conway on Saturday.
Hedstrom completed the course at Beaverfork Lake Park in 15 minutes, 27.5 seconds to finish ninth overall and break the Arkansas Tech women’s cross country 4-kilometer record of 15:45.67 set by Eimear O’Brien in 2005.
Shannon McLaughlin (15th, 15:36.1), Amy Riera (17th, 15:45.9), Logan Edwards (32nd, 16:34.0), Mary Simmons (33rd, 16:34.2), Kami Ward (39th, 16:47.6), Mallory Morris (60th, 17:34.4), Megan Bradley (62nd, 17:39.3), Adrianna Simmons (70th, 18:05.2) and Angel Mapp (77th, 18:41.3) also competed for the Golden Suns in Conway.
Arkansas Tech finished in third place in the team standings among a field of 11 squads. Tech’s team score of 92 was better than fellow Great American Conference members Southern Arkansas University, Ouachita Baptist University and University of Arkansas-Monticello.
The Golden Suns will run in the Southern Stampede hosted by Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., on Saturday, Sept. 17.
