Harding Tops Golden Suns 3-1

Harding University clinched a share of the 2012 Great American Conference regular season volleyball championship and the right to host the 2012 GAC Volleyball Tournament with a 22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 victory over the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bisons (23-6, 12-0) won their ninth consecutive match, while Arkansas Tech (23-8, 9-2) saw its six-match winning streak come to an end.

Mollie Arnold had 17 kills and 11 digs for Harding.

Kaitlyn White and Amber Cerrillos both notched a double-double for the Golden Suns. White had 19 kills and 12 digs, while Cerrillos had 44 assists and 11 digs.

Kaci Jackson made 11 kills and Sara Motsinger had 10 kills for Tech. Morgan McKellar recorded 19 digs and Brittany Ryan added five blocks for the Golden Suns.

Arkansas Tech raised $1,000 for Special Olympics on Tuesday by allowing fans to bid through a silent auction on the limited edition jerseys worn by the Golden Suns during the match.  

Arkansas Tech has three regular season volleyball matches remaining — Saturday, Nov. 3, at Southwestern Oklahoma State; Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Henderson State; and a home match on Thursday, Nov. 8, against Southern Arkansas.

The GAC Volleyball Tournament will be played Nov. 15-17 at Rhodes Field House in Searcy. The Golden Suns are defending champions of that event.
