Mollie Arnold made 18 kills and 15 digs to lead the Harding Lady Bisons to a come-from-behind, five-set volleyball win over the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns at Rhodes Field House in Searcy on Tuesday.
The Lady Bisons (9-3 overall, 2-0 GAC) won 25-16, 24-26, 18-25, 26-24, 15-12 to hand the Golden Suns (9-5, 1-1) their first-ever loss in GAC volleyball action. Arkansas Tech was 16-0 during the inaugural GAC regular season in 2011.
The Suns placed four players in double figures in kills — Carly Florian (19), Sara Motsinger (16), Kaitlyn White (14) and Brittany Ryan (12). White also had 18 digs, while Ryan contributed seven blocks. Tech’s Amber Cerrillos finished with 58 assists and 11 digs. Morgan McKellar led the Suns in digs with 21.
Arkansas Tech will continue GAC play on Thursday, Sept. 20, by hosting Henderson State University for a 7 p.m. GAC match at Tucker Coliseum. Admission will be free.
Head coach Kristy Bayer has designated the evening as “Pack the Stands Night.” Fans are encouraged to help the Golden Suns attempt to break the school record for volleyball attendance of 1,045 that they set during a similar promotion in 2011.
