Harding Defeats Tech for GAC Tourney Title

Harding University defeated Arkansas Tech University 21-25, 26-24, 25-12, 25-16 in the 2012 Great American Conference Volleyball Tournament championship match at Rhodes Field House in Searcy on Saturday.

The win allowed Harding to complete a 2012 sweep of GAC volleyball. The Lady Bisons (28-6) also won the regular season title.

Harding matched the feat that Arkansas Tech accomplished in 2011, when the Golden Suns swept the inaugural GAC volleyball regular season and postseason championships.

Harding’s Mollie Arnold, the GAC player of the year, recorded 21 kills against just four attack errors in 46 attempts for a .370 hitting percentage.

Both of Arkansas Tech’s healthy seniors had a big match in their final appearance in the green and gold.

Brittany Ryan had 14 kills and two blocks, while her classmate Lindsey Layes notched 15 digs and three service aces.

Tech’s other volleyball senior — Carly Florian — was lost to a season-ending injury on Oct. 30.

Kaitlyn White paced the Golden Suns’ offense with 17 kills. Sara Motsinger added 12 kills, Amber Cerrillos had 44 assists, Morgan McKellar made 25 digs and Kaci Jackson was credited with 11 digs.

Arkansas Tech completed its 2012 volleyball season with an overall record of 27-10 under the direction of head coach Kristy Bayer.
