Arkansas Tech’s Ashlynn Hamrick was named Gulf South Conference West Division volleyball defensive player of the week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 24.
Hamrick (photographed) won the award on the strength of her performance against Southern Arkansas on Oct. 19.
The senior right side hitter from Jackson, Mich., matched her career high with five blocks while helping the Golden Suns post a 25-15, 25-13, 25-17 win over the Lady Muleriders.
Hamrick made two more blocks in a 25-23, 25-13, 25-14 victory at Harding on Thursday. It was just Tech’s second win in its last eight matches in Searcy against the Lady Bisons.
Hamrick also had 12 kills in her two matches last week.
The Golden Suns (25-4 overall, 8-1 GSC) will face Christian Brothers (16-11, 8-2) in a key GSC West match on Thursday, Oct. 28. First serve at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tenn., is set for 7 p.m.
Arkansas Tech currently holds a one-half match lead over CBU for first place in the GSC West Division standings.
Tech, CBU and Harding have already clinched berths in the GSC Tournament.
