Arkansas Tech student Julianna Halford (right) was named the top emergency management undergraduate student at the Department of Emergency Management Student Recognition Ceremony at Chambers Cafeteria East Dining Room yesterday.

The award is presented annually to a graduating senior who exhibits a "commitment to professionalism and service in the field of emergency management," and it is the top honor given to an undergraduate in the Department of Emergency Management.

Halford was nominated for the honor by her peers, and she was selected from the nominees by a committee of faculty members.

Arkansas Tech alumnus David Maxwell provided the keynote address during the reception on Thursday.  Maxwell currently heads the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, and he has more than 31 years of service with the agency.

Maxwell was also elected president of the National Emergency Management Association last October.
