Gum Named GAC Pitcher of the Week

Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum was named Great American Conference softball pitcher of the week on Monday, March 21.

Gum was 2-0 in the circle last week. The junior from Red Rock, Okla., allowed one run and six hits in 13 innings of work while striking out 19 batters in a pair of victories over East Central University.

Her performance helped the nationally fifth-ranked Golden Suns (25-2 overall, 17-1 GAC) sweep a four-game series from the ECU Tigers in Ada, Okla., on Saturday and Sunday. The sweep allowed Tech to move into sole possession of first place in the GAC softball standings.

For the season, Gum is 9-0 with a 0.77 earned run average and four shutouts. As a hitter, Gum is batting .377 with three home runs and a team-leading 24 runs batted in.

Arkansas Tech will step out of league play on Wednesday, March 23, for a non-conference doubleheader against Pittsburg State University (22-7) in Pittsburg, Kan. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live statistics will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
