Gum Honored by Great American Conference

Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum was named Great American Conference softball co-player of the week on Monday, April 4.

It is Gum’s third GAC weekly award of the 2016 season. She was previously named the league’s player of the week on March 1 and its pitcher of the week on March 21.

Gum went 8-for-13 at the plate in four games last week, all of which came against the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday and Sunday. She hit two home runs, drove in eight runs and scored eight runs during the series.

The junior from Red Rock, Okla., also made two pitching appearances last week. She went 2-0 in the circle against the Cotton Blossoms, limiting them to one run on six hits while striking out 15 over 10 and one-third innings.

Gum shared the April 4 GAC player of the week award with Macy Nantz of Ouachita Baptist University.

GAC-leading Arkansas Tech (36-3 overall, 26-2 GAC) will host second-place Southern Arkansas University (31-4, 23-4) for a four-game GAC series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Radio station KCAB 97.1 FM/980 AM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
