Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum was named Great American Conference pitcher of the week on Monday, May 1.
Gum was the winning pitcher in all three of the Golden Suns’ victories against Southwestern Oklahoma State University at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday and Saturday.
Over the course of the three-game series, Gum pitched 21 innings, allowed one run (unearned) on eight hits and struck out 44 SWOSU hitters.
The senior from Red Rock, Okla., notched 20 strikeouts in the series opener to become the fourth NCAA Division II softball pitcher in history to record that many strikeouts in a seven-inning game.
Gum established a new GAC record for strikeouts in a season during the series. Her 336 strikeouts this season are most in NCAA Division II for the 2017 campaign.
