GSC West Title Chases Enter Stretch Drive

Arkansas Tech is in contention for both the Gulf South Conference West Division baseball and softball championships entering the final two weekends of the 2011 regular season.

The Wonder Boys (25-15 overall, 11-4 GSC) will continue their pursuit of the GSC West baseball title this weekend by hosting Henderson State (17-21-1, 5-9-1) for a three-game series at Tech Field in Russellville.

The series is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. today (Friday, April 22) with a doubleheader and conclude at noon on Saturday, April 23, with a single contest.

Arkansas Tech is currently tied with Delta State (26-15, 11-4) for second place in the GSC West baseball standings. The Statesmen will play a three-game series at GSC West Division-leading Harding (35-8, 12-3) this weekend.

The Wonder Boys will close out their regular season by hosting Harding for a three-game set on April 30 and May 1.

The top four teams in the final GSC West standings will move on to the GSC Baseball Tournament May 6-10 in Millington, Tenn.

The Arkansas Tech softball team will be on the road this weekend for a four-game series against the Delta State Lady Statesmen in Cleveland, Miss.

The two sides will play a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. today (Friday, April 22) and a twin bill starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.

The Golden Suns (26-16, 16-6) are in first place in the GSC West softball standings. The latest revision of the league standings shows Arkansas Tech with a three-game lead over Ouachita Baptist.

Delta State (19-25, 10-12) jumped back into contention for a berth in the GSC Softball Tournament by sweeping four games from Southern Arkansas last weekend. The Lady Statesmen are in fourth place in the GSC West.

The top four teams in the final GSC West standings will advance to the GSC Softball Tournament May 6-8 in Southaven, Miss. Arkansas Tech has already clinched a spot in that event.
