GSC Names Loehrs Player of the Week

Arkansas Tech right fielder Colt Loehrs is the Gulf South Conference West Division baseball player of the week.

Loehrs (photographed) received the award from the league office on Tuesday, April 12, after he helped the Wonder Boys compile a record of 4-0 over the past week.

The senior from Arkansas City, Kan., had at least two hits in every game last week. He was 9-for-16 with a home run, three doubles, eight runs batted in and six runs scored for the week.

Loehrs’ play helped Arkansas Tech take a 14-6 non-conference win over Ouachita Baptist on Wednesday, April 6, and then sweep three games from Christian Brothers over the weekend.

The Wonder Boys (23-13 overall, 10-2 GSC) defeated the Buccaneers by scores of 15-4, 10-3 and 13-3 to move into sole possession of first place in the GSC West Division standings.

For the season, Loehrs is hitting .355 with five home runs and 32 RBIs.

Arkansas Tech will host Northeastern State for a 6 p.m. non-conference game tonight (Tuesday, April 12) at Tech Field. The Arkansas Tech Department of Athletics will host a cookout beginning at 5:30 p.m. in recognition of National Student-Athlete Day. All student-athletes, faculty and staff members and supporters of Tech Athletics are invited to attend.

The Wonder Boys will return to GSC play this weekend with a three-game series at Delta State. The two sides will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, and a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 17.

All three games will be played at Ferriss Field in Cleveland, Miss.

Saturday’s games can be heard in the Arkansas River Valley on KWKK 100.9 FM. The Sunday contest will be broadcast by KCAB 980 AM.
